Cyclomune is commonly used in the management of canine atopic dermatitis and other immune-mediated or inflammatory disorders. It helps reduce itching, redness, and skin inflammation associated with allergic conditions. The medication may also be prescribed for other autoimmune diseases at the veterinarian’s discretion. Long-term therapy may be required to maintain clinical improvement.
The dosage of Cyclomune is determined based on the animal’s body weight, diagnosis, and clinical response. It is administered orally, usually once daily or as directed by a veterinarian. Capsules should be given whole and preferably at the same time each day. Treatment duration varies depending on the condition being treated.
Cyclomune should be used with caution in animals with a history of recurrent infections or liver disorders. Because it suppresses the immune system, regular veterinary monitoring is recommended during therapy. Animals receiving Cyclomune may be more susceptible to bacterial, viral, or fungal infections. Any unusual symptoms should be reported to a veterinarian promptly.
Cyclomune is contraindicated in animals with known hypersensitivity to cyclosporine or any component of the formulation. It should not be used in animals with uncontrolled infections or malignant disorders. Use in very young, pregnant, or breeding animals should be avoided unless clearly recommended by a veterinarian. The benefit-risk ratio should always be carefully assessed before treatment.
Possible side effects include vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite, and lethargy, particularly at the beginning of treatment. Gingival hyperplasia and excessive hair growth may occur with long-term use. Due to immunosuppression, there is an increased risk of infections. Most adverse effects are mild to moderate and dose-dependent.
Cyclomune may interact with other immunosuppressive medications, antifungal agents, antibiotics, and drugs affecting liver enzymes. Concomitant use may alter cyclosporine blood levels. Careful dose adjustment and monitoring may be required. Always inform the veterinarian about all medications and supplements being administered.
If a dose is missed, it should be administered as soon as remembered. If it is nearly time for the next scheduled dose, the missed dose should be skipped. Do not administer a double dose to compensate. Resume the regular dosing schedule as directed.
Overdose of Cyclomune may lead to severe gastrointestinal disturbances or excessive immunosuppression. Prolonged overdose can increase the risk of serious infections. If an overdose is suspected, veterinary attention should be sought immediately. Symptomatic and supportive treatment may be required.
Cyclomune should be stored at room temperature in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep the medication in its original packaging until use. Do not use after the expiration date. Keep out of reach of children and animals.
